The Origin Of Leather in the World

Leather is a kind of material which is fondly called Hide.

HISTORY /ORIGIN:

Leather are materials gotten from Animals skin and Hides that have been treated with Chemicals used to preserve them and make them suitable for making of clothing, footwear,furniture, handbags etc.

The history / origin of leather in the world is quite broad. Where the world’s oldest leather shoe and the world’s oldest artifacts were uncovered in an American cave in 2010. The shoe were said to be 5,500 years old.

However, the domestication of cattle’s around (8500BC) tried to make it more possible for the making of leather to be easy.

HOW LEATHER IS MADE:

Fresh animal skins dried in the sun,then softened by  pounding in the animal brain, then preserved by smoking and salting.

The preservation method employed in preserving the leather is called tanning. Which converts the perishable skin to a stable and non decaying material.

1:Vegetable Tanned leather

2:Synthetic Tanned leather

3:Chamois leather

4:Chrome Tanned leather

5: Brain Tamned leather.

USES OF LEATHER:

This leathers after being processsed is used for the following:Bag, leather chairs, Leather clothes, Handbags and sports Equipments.

SOURCES OF LEATHER:

This means where these leather are being gotten from or processed from.

We get leathers from the following:

1:Larger Animals (cow hide or horse hide)

2:Smaller Animals (calf skin or kid skin)

3:Cattle,oxen Goats and sheeps.
